Hans Meyer-Kassel Art Lecture

I had such a great time meeting longtime journalist, author, and researcher, Guy Clifton this past weekend. He gave a lecture at the Nevada Museum of Art featuring the history and travels of the famous Hans Meyer-Kassel, a German artist who relocated to Reno and eventually settled near the Sierra Nevada slopes.

A few captivating pieces by Meyer-Kassel, inspired by the Nevada landscape.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Jack Bacon (guest curator for the Hans Meyer-Kassel art exhibition at the Nevada Museum of Art) and was happy to grab a copy of his first book featuring the life and works of Meyer-Kassel. Such a great read!

Sneak Peek: The Evolution of Burning Man

I’m always looking for interesting events to attend in Reno, NV and the City of Dust: The Evolution of Burning Man definitely did not disappoint. Hosted by the Nevada Museum of Art, this special art exhibit allowed visitors to explore the story of how burning man began and has since transformed into the world-renowned phenomenon that it is today. Today I’ll be sharing never before seen photos, journals and sketches that reveal the magic behind this temporary city’s evolution and enchanting story.

City of Dust: The Evolution of Burning Man

The Burning Man art exhibit was located downtown at the Nevada Museum of Art. This specific exhibit ends this Sunday, so if you’re unable to make it, don’t fret. If you are interested in attending any upcoming events at the musuem, just give me a call! I have free tickets and would love to have you as my guest. (775)544-6400.

Using historical records, we can trace the growth and development of Burning Man’s temporary city that emerges annually in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. It originated after the height of the hippy culture in the early 1980’s – the perfect time to entertain new ideas that transcended the thought of main stream society.

This Magical Owl Shoots Lazers Out of Eyes, Reno Mural Expo

The landscape of downtown Reno is looking extra artsy lately. This October, the Reno Mural Expo boasts 30 dynamic artists (including 16 locals) who have transformed 31 vacant walls and alley ways into an outdoor gallery of art.

I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to check out these unique statement pieces, so I set out with my camera and snapped some novice shots. I’m not sure what my favorite style was – the abstract graffiti-type illustration or the surprisingly realistic and evoking “nature” piece.

The coolest part was driving around to all these neighborhoods and getting out among the people and all the cool happenings. It took me a few hours but had a blast! I love downtown and midtown Reno.

Check out the photos below and comment below with your thoughts! Do you have a favorite piece?
